Augmented reality on PS4, Xbox One?
PS4 and Xbox One to receive Virtual Reality soon?
Rumors
Rumor has it that Microsoft's Xbox One is getting augmented, or virtual, reality in the near future. News comes right after the expectation of Sony to announce their new product which should bring virtual reality to people's living room and making it more accessible to the audience. Expected is that Sony will announce this at the Gamer Developers Conference (GDC) today, March 18th, 2014, during a "future of gaming" panel.
Microsoft aims to create a "suite of experiences unique to Microsoft's Xbox products." and is expected not to be too far behind Sony, with their own virtual reality technology.
Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality is a stunning technology which lets you experience movies or games in full 3D, not just in front of you, but all around you. You're in the middle of it. This isn't a brand new technology, since the Oculus Rift already lets its users experience virtual reality. The big difference between the Oculus Rift and the upcoming devices by Sony and Microsoft however, is that the Oculus Rift only displays Computer Generated (CG) images, while Sony and Microsoft's products are creating these images on top of real-world imagery.
E.g.: Let's say you're wearing the Oculus Rift and you're playing Minecraft. All you can see is the actual game of Minecraft itself, inside the Oculus Rift "mask", while with the new Sony and Microsoft VR (Virtual Reality) devices, glasses probably, you will be able to see these "projections" in your actual, let's say, living room.
